The wood splitter cylinder is a critical component of the wood splitter, primarily providing the power required to split timber. Below is a detailed introduction:

Structure and Types

Structural Features: Log splitter cylinders typically employ single-acting or double-acting designs. Single-acting cylinders extend via hydraulic pressure and retract using wood rebound force or gravity; double-acting cylinders enable bidirectional hydraulic drive, allowing more flexible control over splitting actions. The structure includes the cylinder barrel, piston, piston rod, seals, end caps, etc. To withstand the working environment of wood splitters, the cylinder barrel and piston rod are generally manufactured from high-strength steel with chrome plating or quenching treatment applied to enhance wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

Common Types: Based on mounting methods and operational requirements, they can be categorized into flange-mounted cylinders and lug-mounted cylinders. Flange-mounted cylinders are installed on the splitter via flanges, offering secure mounting and even force distribution. Lug-mounted cylinders connect to the splitter's linkage mechanism through lugs at both ends, suitable for applications requiring larger swing angles.

Working Principle

The wood splitter cylinder operates on hydraulic transmission principles. A hydraulic pump pressurizes hydraulic fluid and delivers it into one chamber of the cylinder, driving the piston and piston rod to generate thrust that splits the wood. Taking a double-acting cylinder as an example: when pressurized oil enters the rodless chamber, the piston rod extends while oil in the rod chamber returns. Conversely, when pressurized oil enters the rod chamber, the piston rod retracts and oil in the rodless chamber returns. By controlling the oil flow direction and volume through hydraulic valves, the cylinder's extension/retraction and splitting speed can be adjusted.

Wood Splitter Cylinder Series

Log splitter cylinders typically employ either single-acting or double-acting designs. Single-acting cylinders extend under hydraulic pressure and retract via the rebound force of the wood or gravity; double-acting cylinders, however, can be hydraulically driven in both directions, enabling more flexible control over the splitting action.
